Carman Contracting completes critical fit out for Dorset Orthopaedic’s new head office

Carman Contracting has successfully completed a comprehensive fit out for Dorset Orthopaedic’s new head office in Ringwood, Hampshire.

Dorset Orthopaedic, a leading UK private prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation provider, required a modern and functional facility to better serve its growing client base. The project, which ran from September 2023 to the end of April 2024, involved a detailed Cat A and Cat B fit out across the two-storey building comprising a workshop, patient care, physio, and consulting facilities. Working closely with long-standing client Jade Aden Interiors, the main contractor, we carried out a wide range of electrical and security installations essential to the building’s operation and safety.

Our scope of works was extensive, including full power installation and data distribution comprising 3 phased supply and explosion-resistant power and lighting. A significant feature of the project was the installation of custom lighting supplied by Ansell Lighting. The new lighting design, based on the Colour Rendering Index (CRI), ensures optimal visibility and a welcoming environment for patients and staff. CRI is particularly important for healthcare settings such as Dorset Orthopaedic as it enables staff to assess skin tones accurately.

In addition to the electrical installations, Carman Contracting played a crucial role in the building’s security infrastructure. We installed comprehensive security, access control and intruder alarm systems, all provided by ESF Technologies. For patient and staff safety, disabled refuge alarms were also installed in the building’s toilets.

Energy efficiency has been addressed with the installation of a 56KW photovoltaic array on the building’s roof and 2 single-phase EV chargers.

“The project was completed within a tight timeframe of just four months, thanks to the collaborative efforts of our team and reliable support from suppliers like Kew Electrical,” explained James Selwood, Commercial Director at Carman Contracting. “A special thanks goes to Gary Swaby, our project manager, who worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the fit-out met the high standards we required for this contract.”
